Biography
Joe Toppi, President of GRN Smithfield, is an accomplished senior executive with extensive experience in the Construction, Wholesale Distribution and Logistics industries. Currently Joe leads search teams focused in these industries.
In addition to being a highly skilled leader with the ability to motivate employees to achieve crucial company goals and objectives, he has expertise in working with sales teams to establish effective programs that increase profitability and reduce costs.
Early on in his career, Joe gained invaluable experience at Choquette & Co. Inc.. As he quickly worked his way up the ranks, he was responsible for hiring, training, supervising all departments, and the daily flow of all goods. As the Credit Manager, he oversaw all credit approval of orders and accounts receivable collection. In this role, he was recognized increasing total sales for the company from a low of $25M to a high of $80M.
Following his tenure at Choquette, Joe was personally recruited by Clarke distribution, and became the Director of Operations. While there, he controlled inventory, purchased and negotiated rates with outside vendors, and coordinated all departments. His accomplishments included formulating programs that helped the sales team increase sales from $11M to $80M. He also developed programs which increased the footprint of Clarke products on the retail floor, using outside financing, and helped create easier ways for Clarkes dealers to do business with the company.
In 2005, Joe responded to the service needs of Clarkes customers by starting Clarke Customer Care, a service company dedicated to Clarkes brands. In starting this project, he served as the Director, responsible for hiring and training all employees, and outfitting them with clothing, tools, and vehicles. During his tenure, he led the turnaround that took Sub-Zero service in the Boston area from last in the country to first, by instituting systems and analyzing the business in the short term, which led to the company running positive cash flow after only six months.
While at Clarke, Joe was part of a team dealing with multiple large construction projects. He helped with the original specs for the projects, ordered product to meet demand deadlines, coordinated delivery, dealt with project managers on change orders and coordinated payment.
After leaving Clarke, Joe started JT Consulting. His experiences in the consulting business spanned three states. His responsibilities include coordinating systems and development of programs that restructured sales processes and service businesses for each company, using measurements and newly instituted processes. He received numerous job offers while consulting but wanted to continue working on his own becoming a GRN franchise in October 2007.
Joe Toppi graduated from Providence College with his BS in Business Management, and has successfully completed coursework in WERC Warehouse Management and the Dale Carnegie Courses.
